His Miracles Just Keep On Coming

Due to a long layover in Trinidad we were blessed and rewarded by seeing another of His miracles and promises. WOW!!

Thank you for keeping us in your prayers and continuing to pray for the Christians in Guyana. They are so thirsty for learning. Pray that they continue to learn to love each other.

We will be home on Tuesday afternoon and are looking forward to worshipping with our brothers and sisters in West Memphis, AR.

Sunday was an extremely emotional day!

This was the last day with the Christians in Rose Hall, Williamsburg. We were shown so much love while we were there it was difficult to leave.

Such warm people...63 people attended the services Sunday morning. Devin used his car to pick up Shanti Outar for services. Brian went with him to pick her up. This was the first time she had been to services since her baptism.

Steve preached on God is Good and closed with Jesus' prayer from John 17. At the end Sabrina Ragbeer was presented with a baptismal certificate and a Bible. The ladies were chared with continuing to teach her how to serve, to study, and to stay faithful.

The morning ended with hugs, pictures, and final farewells. We loaded into the van at noon and traveled over the new floating bridge to our overnight stay at Madowini Gardens before getting on the plane to travel to Trinidad.

Saturday! Wow! What a day!

We say WOW! We got up early today and ran to the market to try to purchase some souvenirs and then to the Metro (local Kinkos) before traveling back to the Port Muron market and then to the church building by 11:00 a.m. to make the group trip to the beach that was planned by the members.

Everyone was so excited. Except for one the couples at the congregation no one owns a car and would not be able to afford the hour long trip to the beach. We rode in an excursion truck. Rick called it a Mitsubishi bob truck. About 45 people made the trip. The members of the congregation took all the food and everyone played together in the water. While at the ocean, Sabrina Ragbeer, 14 years old, decided to be baptized. She has been a tremendous help for the past two years during Vacation Bible School and had told us last year that she would be baptized this year. During the past year she was hit by a motorcycle and could have died. She has not completely recovered as of yet. We are so thankful that she has made the decision to become a Christian.
Upon returning to the hotel we spent the remainder of the evening packing and getting ready for the trip back to the capital city of Georgetown following the services tomorrow. During the services tomorrow Rick will lead singing, Steve will preach, and some the rest of us will teach the children's class.
Praise God for Sabrina's decision to put on Christ in baptism!

Business First Then VBS

Friday was again filled with business. The day started with making copies for the last time at the local Kinko (The Metro). We had made copies several days ago but realized that we did not have enough for the number of children who were attending. Rick also copied songs for the team to sing to the members. Rick really had a busy day with the plan to talk while several of the members prepared for the evening lesson and visit in the home of Jennifer Mangual's mother and father. Jennifer's family is Hindu but seem interested in learning about Christ.

During VBS the adults stayed in for the first skit. Karla and Daniel portrayed Jesus and the bent woman and then they went to their classes. We taught the second story about Lazarus. The big event for the morning was that if the children could say the books of the New Testament they would get a toy and if they said their memory verse for the week they would get a treat. Following the chaos of the memory verses we traveled to Jennifer's mother and returned to the building about two. Steve visited with Richmond, Mangual, and Marzina's son, to try to interest him in returning to Christ.

During the week Vicki has made great progess with Dromilla, Sabrina, and Devin's neighbor. We visited with the members through the afternoon and then at 4:30 Rick presented the lesson, "A Room With a View--The Upper Room".

We distrubuted 85 World Bible school lessons for the members to share with their neighbors.

Again we thank you and covet your prayers for us and for the people of Guyana.

Five Loaves and Two Fish!

Thursday began with a run to the market to purchase five loaves and two fish for the Bible class visual aid. What a day it was in Bible class. Little did we realize what excitement would be caused by pink and blue party bags turned into fish.

We had 44 children ages 2-12 in one classroom and Rick was able to teach the 19 young teens in the auditorium. We will see what happens when we give prizes for memory verses and the books of the New Testament tomorrow. I am praying for a plan.

After the ladies cooked lunch for us we traveled to Shanti Outar's home to sing with her and encourage her. We told her that her picture was sent to the congregation at home for her brothers and sisters in Christ to pray for her. She would love to hear from Christians in the states.

Tomorrow we will still continue to work with the young Christians at the congregation. Steve and Rick will continue to teach the men to continue to Christian maturity. Vicki will continue to teach the women and visiting women about Jesus and His plan and salvation.

Daniel presented the lesson on the joy in the Christian life which was very well received.

Please continue to pray for us and for God to work in the lives of the people we come into contact with.

Today was another great day!

We had so many children (66) in the one classroom that we had to divide into two groups. After meeting in the auditorium for a time of singing and teaching the lesson we broke into two groups. Rick took the 15 older children into the auditorium and they practiced the skit of the paralytic man being lowered through the roof and then performed it for the younger group.

While the older group was practicing their skit the younger children were making a puppet of the lame man that was healed by the pool of Bethsaida.

In the afternoon, time was spent encouraging the members and visiting those who were ill. Either Thursday or Friday afternoon we will distribute World Bible School materials.

Please continue to pray for God's work here.

WOW! The Miracles of Jesus

This is the theme of this year's Vacation Bible School. On Monday the children learned about Jesus' first miracle of turning water to wine and the healing of the man who was blind from birth.

On Monday we had thirty-four children in Bible class and 47 on Tuesday. There were four men in the men's class and 11 women to attend. In the afternoons the team is spending time taking care of business for the congregation and visiting in the homes of members and visiting with those who might be interested in learning about Jesus.

On Tuesday afternoon we were able to visit in the home of Shanti Outar, the woman who was baptized last year in the rain barrel. Since we did not get a picture of her baptism we are sending you a picture of Shanti and the rain barrel.

I hope to post more tomorrow. Everything is much slower and more difficult so please be patient.

May God bless each of you!

We Are Back for 2009

We arrived safely after a long night. The day trip from Georgetown to New Amsterdam was much shorter due to the new floating bridge (no ferry this time).

We are all doing well. We are busy in each of our jobs. Rick is busy teaching the Bible Stories to the children and working with the older children. He is also leading some of the singing. He taught the lesson tonight in the services.

Karla, Daniel, and I work with the children in the Bible Class.

Daniel and Karla have enacted the Bible Stories and helped in the teaching

Vicki has conducted the ladies Bible Class.

Steve has had morning classes with the men of the church concerning leadership.

The Last Day

On Sunday we arrived at the building early to take pictures and to visit before services. Cindy and I taught the children's class, Rick taught the Bible class, and Steve brought the lesson. we had a few children visiting during the Bible school hour but it was mostly the ones that regularly attend. Eloy, Samanta, Sabrina, and Marci were our helpers. the class really looked small after the 60 we had just a couple of days before. Following services we exchanged addresses and waited for the transportation to arrive.

We boarded the taxi and traveled to the stelling
where we would catch the ferry across the Berbice The trip from New Amsterdam to Georgetown is the longest 62 miles we ever felt. Steve and Vickie talk as we wait to get on the ferry. today the trip took about four hours.

Below is a picture of the ferry going to the New Amsterdam port as we travel from New Amsterdam to the other side.

The video is from the deck of the ferry as we travel across the river. It gives you a perspective of the size of the river.

Every year the trip takes on a personality of its own, with its own unique characteristics. This year was no different. From the difficulties at the Miami airport to the lost luggage to the wonderful Christians at Rose Hall who are maturing and growing, the studies and the enthusiasm, the new Christians and the contacts that we pray will become Christians, all of this is what made this year the success it was. Thank you for helping make all this possible. Rick and Kim

The Saturday Feast

At the end of the week we began preparing for the Saturday feast. The church does not have a stove so we asked around about obtaining a couple of burners. Marzina said she had a four burner that we could borrow. Brian said he could arrange to get it to the building. Little did I know that the four burners were Marzina's own stove. Brian arranged for Ann's boys to bring the whole stove to church by way of Jackie Chan, the donkey. If you look at Jackie Chan's head, he has stickers. I guess he was a good boy at Bible class too. In the next picture you can see the apartment size stove in the background. Cindy and I spent Friday afternoon making cookies for the next day. We made peanut butter chews and chocolate no bake cookies. The women of the congregation just had to watch and copy the recipes.

The men cooked 25 chickens on Guyanese charcoal (not like ours). Besides desert and bbq chicken we had American mashed potatoes, fried okra, green beans, fruit salad, and deviled eggs. We even made rice because they almost always eat rice. I think we over did it a little. We served over a hundred people. At least half of them were the children who had attended the Bible class. The chicken was the favorite of all the Guyanese.

Vicki Seniker

When we started the week at Williamsburg-Rose Hall the ladies of the congregation wanted to make sure I new that they had assigned teens to help us in the children's Bible class and that the women of the congregation would all be attending Vicki's ladies class. The women all love Vicki and her teaching. We are very proud of the women of the congregation for they are becoming mature in Christ and are ready for 'meat'.

Steve Yarbery served as the able leader of the mission team and delivered the evening lessons. The theme for the week was on being part of the vine.

Cindy Yarberry and I taught the children's Bible classes during the week. The first day there was about 24 children in Bible class. By Friday we had 60 children aging from 2 years to 14 years in one classroom. She's a pro. The children were so wonderful and so excited about everything they did in class. They were happy just to get a coloring sheet.

Three Baptisms

Thursday and Friday were really busy days. Two of the teens who attend the Rose Hall Williamsburg congregation were baptized on Thursday afternoon. Following the baptism, Brian and Sharon Miranjie, Marzina Mangal, and Rick visited Shanti Outar. Brian and Sharon had Studied with Shanti before moving to Georgetown. During their visit this week they completed the teaching. Shanti had suffered a stroke several years ago and had not been able to go down the stairs of her house and had not been outside in three years. On Friday, Rick and Brian carried her down her stairs and baptized her in a 55 gallon drum. Wow, I wish I had been there! It was amazing.
